Question

Do people understand the goal is to finish level 1?

Answer

  • Student athletes love the app. Both student athletes I interviewed asked if they could have access. 2/2 understood that the goal was the finish Level 1
  • Refugees that I interviewed did not understand what Finlit was.
  • My recommendation for Finlit is to focus heavily on student athletes for right now and make design changes to figure out how to better serve refugees.

  • Took Financial literacy in school. When I asked about what he learned he said, "Money and houses." Again this could be because he wasn't paying attention, but I do know that he doesn't have a great foundation of finance.
  • If I had a question about money, I would ask my foster parents. I would ask them or I would ask my case worker.
  • He got all of the post video questions wrong. HOWEVER!!! When he learned he got something right, he was stoked. That needs to be a big, BIG design element for ELL students.

  • One thought: Prince might not have been paying much attention at the beginning (what a teenager haha)

  • Money goals: to be average. To be able to support himself. It is funny, most people would look at that as a bad answer. But for this kid, in this situation, that is a perfectly amazing goal.

Went to Jordan high school. Went to a trade school to finish up high school.

He is from Burundi, which is east of the DRC.

Both of his parents passed away in Burundi. Is here with his siblings. Never has conversations with his siblings about money.

  • Got a few of the questions wrong on the course after watching the videos.
  • When I asked questions about what he knew about finance, the answers weren't super clear.
  • I would say overall, Joseph didn't understand what I was looking for. I think there was an issue with him not understanding.
  • He was confused by the beginning question. If I had to guess, I would say he couldn't see or read the top question that was asked on the first page. He thought this was a question asking what he wanted to learn.
  • My main thought: I think this showed that for English Language Learners (ELL) the app needs to be more simple.
  • Has a bank account, though he wasn't sure who it was through.
  • I didn't know English when I came to the US.
  • "I did financial literacy last year in school. And I feel like it helped a lot."
  • "We learned about saving money to buy for a house". I will say, when I asked him what he learned in school, his answers were very vague. It seemed he was unsure how to answer.
  • Came to the US in 2017 from Uganda. Did middle school here. Is a senior in high school at Riverton.
  • Dad still lives in Uganda. Didn't want to come to America.
  • Both he and his brother are adopted, I am assuming from the same family.
  • Works at Wendy's. Works three days per week. 6 hours per shift.

  • My family is always bad with money. They live pay check to pay check and buy a lot of things they don't need.
  • By the end, he wanted to progress to Level 2 rather than going onto the second course.
  • "He really liked the fact that he could deep dive into a topic rather than having to go through all of them really quick. These are based on what I want"
  • From Rob: I would like to learn more about how customization effects their desire to learn and how much they learn.

  • No scholarships at Division 3.
  • Tuition is $60k per year. Gets a half scholarship and FAFSA, so pays about $20k per year
  • "Took a class in high school that was super helpful."
  • "I don't want to have to live pay check to pay check. I want to be smart with my money."
  • Tested on a laptop.
  • First questions look like a survey.
  • The videos had a lot of information and were full of information.

Zac is playing football at Pacific Lutheran University, a division 3 school in Washington.

  • Got all the questions right, pre and post test.
  • "School didn't teach me about personal finance. High school or college."
  • "I have wanted to learn about this because I don't want to get into a problem."
  • When I asked what does this company want to do, Sophia said "FinLit wants me to learn about all the categories that I clicked on."
  • I'm not super confident in terms that are new. I don't know about cryptocurrency. I feel like I should know about that. Same with foreign trading.
  • My school didn't teach me about personal finance.
  • Question from Rob: is the term Personal Finance the way to say it? Does that make people think it is about Cryptocurrency?
  • Doesn't know about credit cards.
  • We need to add the phrase "Click all that apply" on the first pages.
  • I like the videos. The questions are helpful to check how I'm doing as I want to go along.
