Question

Why aren't people becoming active Undock users?

Answer

Round 1:

  • 3/3 people said something like, "I'm confused," or "I don't know what this company does."
  • 3/3 people in Round #1 thought that Undock was the exact same as Calendly. 2 of these users refused to use Calendly because it looked unprofessional. They were selling high value deals ($50k per month +)
  • 3/3 people in Round #1 were absolutely Undock users and were describing the problem that Undock soles.

Round 2:

  • 3/3 users understood that Undock helped schedule meetings in your email. This is huge!
  • All users had a problem with time zones. No where on its home page does Calendly mention time zones.
  • 2/3 users were thrown off by the Google Message, even with prompts.

Round 3

  • 2/2 users understood what it Undock was: Helps you schedule meetings in your calendar.
  • "I love Chrome Extensions, they feel very secure. I didn't know this was a Chrome Extension until I downloaded it."
  • 2/2 users did not have problem with the Google Message. Prompts seem to be helping.

  • "It looks like it brings up options INSIDE of email. It prevents me from having to constantly toggle between two tabs."
  • "If this were reading other people's calendars it would be unreal."
  • "Also, can we get people to show up?" My calendar pushes out automations. It sends a reminder to make sure that meetings happen.
  • Tried it manual. Did not autofill the information. Is there something we can do to make that easier?
  • After he created an account, it did not log him in.
  • After clicking on the the email, it took him to the preferences page of his account. At this point, Cory had no idea what Undock did.
  • When he used Undock to send a meeting, he had no idea it does sync with your calendar.
  • "I don't mean to sound harsh, but the less cluttered and more centralized I can keep things is a lot better for me. I don't want to go through a new app or calendar to get things done."
  • If I had read this was good, and had the experience that I have had, I hate it. It is clunky, it isn't clear. I need to understand what this company does. I should get in there and it should just work.
  • "My greatest word in summary would be confused."
  • Cory was doing this interview as he was traveling and was using his phone. I did this intentionally to see how the experience would work on mobile.
  • "I have no clue what this company does". Based on his first impressions of the home page. Then reading, he thought that it was a calendar.
  • "Is this reading other people's calendars? From the home page I cannot tell if that is the case."
  • "Interesting, the personalized times.
  • The amount of time I spend scheduling meetings is incredible. Anything that saves time on the meeting times is awesome."
  • Cory could not create an account using Google because he had the wrong
  • Are they integrating with my calendar?
  • When he tried to invite me to a meeting

  • When asked what it was, "Is it similar to Calendly but I don't have to send the link directly?"
  • "I cannot see anything that is unique [about Undock]. It looks different [visually], but it looks the same."
  • "I don't want to click [on the sign up button] because I am nervous it will mess with my Calendly settings and my calendar settings."
  • He said, "I'm trusting you." That is very interesting. There is clearly a lot of thought and time that goes into his calendar. And he is clearly worried it is going to get messed up.
  • Immediately when he tried using Undock in the onboarding he said, "Kind of confusing."
  • I had Brian try scheduling a meeting in three different ways: right in Gmail, using the extension, and in web app. On each of those, he compared them to the tools he was using and didn't see a difference. To him, there was no difference between Calendly and Undock

  • He said, "This might have more features," but could not identify what made it different.
  • "The problem it is trying to solve is already being solved by Calendly."
  • When Brian used the feature that lets you try it out, it made him log in, even though he has already created his account and is logged into Undock.
  • "I have to sign in again?" is what he asked.
  • There is a lot of trust issues whether it is actually syncing with my calendar.
  • He didn't understand that this was the context of being an email.
  • "Where it says, 'Success try it out here', I don't understand what I'm trying out.
  • "The calendar makes sense." Here is the problem, the calendar makes sense in the context of him thinking this is Calendly. The calendar is actually confusing if our first objective is to get them to USE Undock as a level 1 user.
  • When using Gmail, he goes right into the way it works like Calendly. He understood why the slash was shown to him before, but didn't get that it could do more than add a Calendly type link.
  • I asked him if he is every worried about using Calendly. He said he was at the beginning but since has grown comfortable.
  • For years Brian did the back and forth thing. He had to figure things out with the TIME ZONES! We HAVE to mention time zones.
  • He likes that he can customize things by adding an email or things like that.
  • He has closed a bunch of business, including with higher level executives at companies.
  • "I also don't ask if I want to do Zoom, or a phone number. That is included in Calendly."
  • "We wanted my company to resemble fun. Even if it doesn't look more professional to use Calendly, I am fine because I want my business to be fun."

Brian owns a business that works with HR managers. He is heavily involved in sales, with about 10-15 external meetings per week.

  • The #1 takeaway is that Alex is that saying "Undock will have access to your calendar and all your data" was a completely deal breaker. Full stop.
  • "That [the message that popped up] is honestly intrusive. That is honestly a no for me."
  • "I think Calendly from a sales perspective is super impersonal. I try to go above and beyond to look at my calendar. When people send me a Calendly link, it is very lazy."
  • "In a complex sales cycle every interaction matters and that is one that says, 'This person showed effort'."
  • What does this company do? "Is it a Calendly competitor?"
  • What makes this company different? "AI text recognition would be my guess [which he took from the video]".
  • Onboarding process is straight forward.
  • Had no problem linking his calendar.
  • On adjusting his availability, he had a hard time understanding whether things were selected or not.
  • "Why would I want to invite people? [because he hasn't seen what it can do]"
  • He couldn't find where the meeting was after adding a meeting with me.
  • He didn't see where the event title was at the top of the screen.
  • "I didn't know what it [Undock] was. I have no problem with Google."
  • Has four meetings with a prospect before closing a deal.
  • "I love the custom title I can put in the Google Calendar."
  • "In my mind I'm competing agains someone that sends a calendar and doesn't care. They book a TON of time."

  • "I like that I don't have to switch between different tabs."
  • The screenshots of the product, particularly of the emails are confusing.
  • "I want to give people the special treatment. We want the first engagement to be based on their terms." (Meaning, he doesn't want to use a calendly link for first engagement).
  • Big problem with the "Undock can read and change all data on all websites". Dealbreaker.
  • The two distinct flows section sense because of the copy. The images didn't make sense.
  • A calendar link allows people to chose a time that works for me.
  • He emails and asks them for times that work on them. He doesn't want to give away his calendar. He wants to have control. Everyday is different because I work internationally.
  • He likes the visual elements, even though it didn't really make a ton of sense with the copy. There is for sure a visual component there that helps people.
  • Likes the customization piece.
  • "Visual content gives me a better idea of what something is. That is why I like videos."
  • When he saw the interactive prototype on the live home page, that stood out.
  • "I like that this has a link for people to use."
  • We need to tell people more about what happens with their information. We dont' really talk about security the whole time. Not until the end.
  • I love where you guys are going with this.

  • "It makes scheduling meetings easy".
  • "This is a signup process?" She asked this question after going through the sign up process. She thinks of the demo as a tutorial. She thought that should be after the sign up process.
  • "I haven't heard about the slash until the end." However, I dont' think that was too confusing for her.
  • She still held onto the link that scheduled meetings at the end of the interview. She wanted to do both of those things. The slash, and the link.

  • I deal with time zones all the time. Constantly.
  • Sometimes they send the invite and sometimes she does.
  • I have two calendars, personal and work. My company locks down a bunch of stuff.
  • I don't have one of those Calendly's. My work doesn't let me do that. They don't want to spread that information to anyone outside the organization.
  • We are in the process of getting Calendly.
  • I send them "7:00 EST". She will send that to everyone.
  • I think I would prefer sending a calendly invite.
  • I would like to learn more about "Right inside their emails". That is what stands out.
  • She got that part of this is sending a time.
  • Didn't know what the second paragraph meant in the Two Distinct Flows section. I agree, that paragraph is confusing.
  • Outlook instead of Microsoft. Might be worth changing.
  • Understood it was about preferences.
  • When selecting a calendar, she didn't know that she could add more than one personal account.
  • Believes that the difference is that we have personalization sections.
  • No idea what the bars or the lightninng bolt meant in the other section.
  • She noticed the title of the video on Google. It says predictive scheduling. So I think we need to change that to be more focused on email.
  • I would want to see something that shows in Gmail that I have installed something.
  • I have had people who are offended by the calendar.

  • She was very thrown off by the images on the home page. They didn't look like emails.
  • No problem with the message from Google when installing the extension. I believe this was a combination of our message and her personality "Nothing to hide" is what she said.
  • She REALLY loved the fact that it worked on mobile. She uses mobile all the time to contact people. Love the idea!
  • Specifically, the fact that she can see her calendar while texting on iPhone.
  • I have used Calendly twice. It isn't my first choice. Someone else has to create a profile. But this was a glitch. Basically, she doesn't trust it.
  • "I think this company helps you stay organized with different people."
  • I don't know if I want to create a profile. I don't know if this is worth it. I don't like giving out my information. I don't know how much they are sending.
  • I realize i don't have to switch tabs. If I can change that, I think it can make a huge difference.
  • I like there is different color for your availability. She was giving feedback based on visual design, which makes sense but not what we were looking for.
  • I like that it can be personalize.
  • She wants to customize the time she wants to meet very in depth. Certain times of day. Meetings and changes. Simple things.
  • No idea what the purple lines are. She thought they were how many people are in the meeting.
  • I like that it gives you a heads up on what is going to happen next. I think that is true with most every onboarding flow.
  • Understood that the slash wouldn't work, even though we didn't mention it in the prototype.

  • "As a sales rep, my reputation is made on whether I get back to people. Sending contacts or any other things like that."
  • What does this company do? "It makes it much easier to schedule times right in your email."
  • He liked the demo, especially the fact that it was interactive. Much better than a video. (I really love that we have the screen that allows people to skip the demo.)
  • I didn't know that the app was a Chrome Extension. Or at least it wasn't totally intuitive.
  • Scratchpad has a very similar first sign up process. People trust Chrome Extensions. They don't have problem with them.
  • Light mode looks a bit more inviting.
  • I don't have to pull up my tabs.
  • It integrates with my texting.
  • The dark section of the home page didn't make sense.
  • The theme is very similar to other things.
  • Had a few problems with the prototype.

  • Understood from the home page that this app helps you schedule meetings.
  • Mentioned time zones a lot. Time zones are a real frustration for her trying to find a meeting.
  • In the end, really thought this was Calendly.
  • For some strange reason, the audio did not record on this video. I have no idea what happened.
  • Thought it was the same as Calendly, or at least very similar.
  • Doesn't use Calendly. She wants a more personalize experience and needs it to work with a lot of her team members. She tried it once and didn't like it.
  • Showed an actual email sequence of her trying to set up a meeting. It took 2 or 3 months.

Works as a sales rep. Schedules own meetings. Works on high level enterprise accounts. 5-10 external accounts per week. Very much trying to cater to their schedule.
